What I remember and will never forget. After 18 years, I won’t repeat my daughter’s story again. A new freshman at NYU covers it.
--------------------------------------
I remember the media and politicians focusing every year on 3000+ people, first responders and some buildings. Yes, we will never forget you.
But that day, the day Bin Laden won the war that had yet to start. That day will forever be marked in history books as the end of democracy’s rise and the start of our slide into authoritarian rule.
I will never forget the loss of innocence
I will never forget the Saudi family flying out while we were grounded
I will always remember the pure blue, cloudless skies of those days
I will never forget the drumbeat of war
I will forever regret falling for the drumbeat
I will never forget them “protecting your freedoms” by taking them away
I will never forget them using the flag as a matador uses a red cape
I will never forget the lies used to destroy Iraq, a thriving, modern land
I will not forget the GOP owners using those lives lost as justification for their never ending war. The war that will keep them and their children’s children’s children on super yachts throughout the coming floods
I could continue but I must work in order to save some cash for the copay for that bionic hip I can only avoid another year.
PS: I took the photo in early October while visiting my kid and participating in NYU parent discussions. NYU was and is amazing. The quick story. We had been there 3 days when my daughter asked, “Don’t you guys want to go see the wreckage?”. Odd Job indeed
